60-year-old man has died after swimming at the Warrnambool’s Main beach. Police say he was found unresponsive in the water just after 2pm, and subsequent attempts to save him were unsuccessful.

Emergency services were called to Lady Bay, near the Surf Life Saving Club after 2pm on Thursday.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said one person was currently being assessed at the scene and was in a critical condition.

Warrnambool police, paramedics and Fire Rescue Victoria are all attending.

The beach was busy at the time with people enjoying the 30-plus degree temperature.

He is yet to be identified by the authorities.
