UCSF FRESNO STATEMENT ON PASSING OF BRUCE BRONZAN
The UCSF Fresno community mourns the loss of Bruce Bronzan, who passed away on Sept. 28. Mr. Bronzan was a dedicated public servant. His calling started in junior high school when he served as student body president and continued as president of the student body in high school and at Fresno State. His duty to serve took him first to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors and on to the State Legislature as an assembly member, representing the 31st District, which included Valley Medical Center. Health care issues were among his priorities and during his time in the Legislature, he chaired the Assembly Health and Mental Health committees.
After retiring from the Assembly, Mr. Bronzan was appointed associate dean of administration and development at UCSF Fresno by then UCSF Chancellor Joseph B. Martin, MD. Mr. Bronzan served as associate dean from 1993 to 1997 alongside Associate Dean H. John Blossom, MD, who oversaw UCSF Fresno’s academic arm. The two were the Fresno campus’ first full-time associate deans since the campus was established in 1975. Mr. Bronzan’s main charge was to help build a model health care delivery system to address the shortage of primary care doctors in the San Joaquin Valley. His efforts contributed significantly to UCSF Fresno’s foundation and the institution we are today. His intelligence, wit and energy will be missed greatly. We offer deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and many friends.
