How did Charlie Haeger die?
Former major-league pitcher and Cubs minor-league pitching coach Charlie Haeger was found dead by an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound” after being wanted for the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in Arizona.
At approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, Haeger was found dead along the rim trail at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, according to Scottsdale, Ariz., police, who were searching for Haeger in a homicide investigation.
On Friday evening, Scottsdale patrol officers responded to a “sound of shots” call at 8100 E. Via Sonrisa.
According to a police report: “The investigation has revealed that a male roommate returned to his residence yesterday afternoon when he heard multiple gunshots coming from the female victim’s bedroom. Moments later the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 37-year-old Charles Haeger, exited the victim’s bedroom with a handgun.
