Sad news out of Winnipeg. According to the Manitoba Music Museum, Gary Bachman—the original manager of BTO predecessor band Brave Belt—passed away on Friday.
I was a newbie music journalist when Gary managed Brave Belt. With a real attention to detail, he set up a couple of interviews for wet-behind-the-ears me. The last time I met Gary was spring 1972 as he liaised the relocation of Randy, Fred and Robin to Vancouver not long after Chad Allan exited the group. Tim Bachman would soon join up.
Gary opted to himself return to Winnipeg, confident the band’s career would be in good hands with Bruce Allen.
Given my own experience with Gary’s warmth and professionalism, it came as no surprise that he became a very successful realtor in Winnipeg.
Condolences to Gary’s family including his brothers Randy, Rob and Tim Bachman. Also to Fred Turner, Chad Allan and other folks in the Brave Belt ‘family.’

Gary Bachman was such a nice man, always greeted me with a smile and was always there to chat with when we would see each other at conference. Gary was a great man and was one of the best. You will be sadly missed my friend RIP. My condolences go out to his family, it is truly a great loss.
