Hugh Edward McClure Obituary, Death

Hugh Edward McClure, age 74, of Electra, Texas passed away Thursday morning, January 27, 2022 in Electra. Hugh was born January 30, 1947 in Olney, Texas to the late Henry Edward McClure and Wanda Lee Doughtery McClure.

Hugh attended school in Electra and Olney, before graduating from Lee University in Tennessee and then Bakersfield University in Bakersfield, California with a Masters Degree in Education and Psychology.

He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Hillis, on February 5, 1966 in Weona, Arkansas. They were married for fifty-five years and eleven months at the time of his death.

From 1972 until 1977, he worked for NASA. He then went into the ministry in Friendswood, Texas and remained in the ministry for over thirty years. Hugh was always preaching somewhere, throughout his life. He loved sharing the Gospel and the love of Jesus with everyone. Hugh was employed at Pleasant Valley State Prison in California where he was the Men’s Education Administrator from 2002 until 2013. In 2013, he retired to come back to Electra to take care of his father.

Hugh loved watching gospel preaching and listening to gospel music. He also enjoyed tennis and swimming. However, the most important thing to Hugh was his family.

Hugh will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon McClure of Electra; two sons, Hugh Edward “Ed” McClure of Davenport, Iowa and Harold Lee McClure and wife, Debbie of Iowa Park; three grandchildren and five, great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Rusty McClure.

The family suggests memorials to the Electra Senior Citizens Center, 503 West Michigan, Electra, Texas 76360.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra followed by the Celebration of Hugh’s Life at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ted Gray, of the Church of God in Weatherford, Rev. John Gardner, Pastor of Legacy Church of God in Wichita Falls and Rev. Wayne Blackshear, officiating. Interment will follow in Old Electra Cemetery.
