- Date of death: June 15, 2021
- Death Age: 22-year-old
- Cause of Death : shot to death
A 22-year-old man killed in a South Los Angeles shooting that also left an 8-year-old girl wounded was publicly identified today, and the assailants remained at large.
Marcelis Gude was standing on a sidewalk in the 200 block of East 102nd Street, near San Pedro Street, about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday when a light-colored four-door sedan stopped near him and an unknown number of armed suspects jumped out of the car and fired multiple shots, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement. The suspects then got back into the car, which sped off westbound on 102nd Street.
Gude was struck several times and the girl was hit in the arm, police said. Both were taken to a hospital, where Gude died of his injuries.
The girl, who investigators do not believe was an intended target of the shooting, was listed in stable condition.
No possible motive was provided, nor would police comment on the relationship, if any, between Gude and the child. An LAPD spokesman said investigators aren’t sure if Gude was the intended target or whether the victims were just in the line of fire.
