The family are yet to make public the obituary and funeral arrangements.

A GoFundMe page was created by the family/friends of the deceased, it reads;

Fund for Mike’s family after his passing

Update: Sunday morning Michael was called home. He suffered a stroke the evening before and in his weakened state his body was unable to recover. Due the Mike passing away before him and Brie were able to marry, she will not be receiving any funds to help pay bills and financially recover from missing work while she was by his side during his illnesses. We have raised the goal to ensure that her and the kids have some sort of financial stability while they look for a new home because it will not be going to her. Mike would have wanted them to feel safe and secure in his absence and we are beyond grateful for all of your support. We would like to thank you all for your prayers and generosity through all of this. Have a blessed day and Merry Christmas. Life is always full of ups and downs, and sometimes when it seems things are going to remain the way they are, good or bad, something amazing happens. Such was the case with Michael “British” Hethcoat and Brie Anderson.
British and Brie met when he walked into her salon and became a client and soon after they began dating. It wasn’t long before the two decided to have a “go at it.” If ever there was an example of fate bringing two people together it can be witnessed in the relationship between Michael and Brie.

When it seemed life was taking them down the most beautiful path full of love and the laughter of children, the combined family of seven received devastating news.

Michael had gone to the hospital to get checked out for what they thought was a simple non-emergency condition and was quickly diagnosed with Leukemia. And to add insult to injury it was discovered Michael had also been infected with COVID-19.

The medically retired US Marine was rushed to Vidant Medical Center at East Carolina University where he underwent chemotherapy straight away. Much to the marvel of the doctors and nurses Michael, in true Marine Corps fashion handled the chemo like a champ and had been responding quite well. In the meantime, due to the COVID he was in quarantine so neither Brie nor any of the children including Michael’s two daughters could visit him.

Next, Michael developed pneumonia as a result of the COVID and a now weakened immune system. One night a blood clot had become dislodged and Michael suffered a mild stroke. He was able to Facetime with Brie briefly, long enough to get the words out “I love you babe,” before becoming incoherent.
At last, the decision was made to place Michael on a ventilator in order to allow his body to rest and help him get the much needed air his body is needing.

At the moment access to Michael’s funds are restricted as no one could have imagined this is how this family would be preparing for Christmas and the New Year. Michael’s immediate family is helping to cover some of the bills but there is still much financial uncertainty in the coming months.

This post will be updated with more information as they are made available and public.
