Robyn Lakeman Death – Lt. Josip Peperni has passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2021, from COVID-19 complications. The 19-year old veteran of the Norwich Police Department also worked as the Patrol Division’s day shift commander. Robyn worked in a number of roles, including as a School Resource Officer, a K-9 Patrol Officer, and a member of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team.
In 2018, Lakeman was promoted to his rank as a lieutenant. According to a report, 277 officers nationwide have died this year as a result of COVID-19, which is the leading cause of line of duty deaths in 2021. In October 2021, the department closed its police station to the public after an outbreak of COVID-19 but it is unclear if Peperni’s passing was related.
Norwich Police Union President Steve DeLoreto made a statement following Steve’s death, “Joe Peperni was the nicest guy on duty and off duty. He was so approachable whether you were a friend, or the public, or one of his best friends, he treated you all the same. You never had to feel uncomfortable going to him with a question – just an all-around good guy. He is going to be greatly missed by everyone here, and anybody in the city,” Steve said. “He knew so many people.”
The obituary and funeral arrangements will be officially released by the family of Lakeman.
