Jabari Farafiai Asante-Chioke Death – Louisiana State Police reported that an officer and two levee district officers shot and killed a man who was allegedly pointing a gun at them on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. The man who died in the incident has been identified as 52-year-old Jabari Farafiai Asante-Chioke of St. Rose, LA. The incident remains under investigation and additional details will be released as soon as there is an update.
Louisiana State Police began investigating theshooting that involved an officer. which occurred on Airline Highway near Causeway Boulevard. The incident involved cops from Louisiana State Police Troop B and the East Jefferson Levee District Police Department. Authorities revealed shortly before 10:00 pm, that multiple law enforcement agencies were assisting with traffic control at the intersection of Airline Highway and Severn Avenue due to traffic signal repair operations.
As officials assisted with traffic control at the intersection, several concerned motorists stopped and advised an officer that a man was walking possessing a gun on Airline Highway near Causeway Boulevard. Officials responded to the area and observed the black male subject holding a gun in one hand and a knife in the other hand. When officers attempted to make contact with the reported man, he fled the spot on foot and a the police began pursuit. During the pursuit, law enforcement personnel gave commands to drop the weapons.
Jabari was deaf to the commands and refused to drop the weapon, he turned to face officers and pointed the gun in their direction. An officer and two East Jefferson Levee District Officers retaliated and shot the man. Asante-Chioke died on the scene. Louisiana State Police Crime Lab processed the scene for evidence. The investigation remains ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
