Roger Chandler Death – Roger Chandler, longtime council member Roger Chandler of the City of Arcadia has passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021. The death of Roger Chandler was officially announced on Monday. Chandler is survived by his wife Jane and their two sons. The cause of death has been made known by the city to be cancer. His age was not released, but he was believed to be in his mid-70s. Arcadia Mayor Sho Tay made a statement while announcing the death of Chandler. Tay expressed how he and his family felt about the departure of the longtime council member, Tay also mentioned the impact Chandler made on the city and how his effort will be missed. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and colleague,” Arcadia Mayor Sho Tay said, in a statement. “My family and I send our sincerest condolences to Jane and the entire Chandler family.”

“Roger’s presence on the City Council will be missed, but his legacy of service and his impact on Arcadia will live on for generations,” Tay added. Chandler was a residence of Arcadia for more than 40 years and served on the City Council for 24 of them, serving as Mayor four times. By law, he had to take a required two-year hiatus from the council because of term limits after serving his fifth term and was re-elected for a sixth in April 2014. Chandler said some time ago, “I’m just happy to be there. It’s not my first rodeo. It’s always nervous, but I’m tickled.”

Roger studied and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from USC. He served for more than two decades with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. He had a great career in law enforcement, he also served as Chief of Police for the Los Angeles Housing Authority and created the Hawaiian Gardens Police Department. His funeral arrangements and obituary will be posted officially by his family.

“Burton Brink for California” posted to their Twitter expressing the sadness Chandler’s death brought to the entire City of Arcadia and they also stated the cause of his death. “Burton Brink for California,” wrote on Twitter”It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the City of Arcadia announces the passing of Council Member Roger Chandler after a courageous battle with cancer. Kim and I send our sincerest condolences to Jane and the entire Chandler family.”
