Dr. Herman B. Smith, Jr. Death – Dr. Herman B. Smith, Jr. died on November 7, 2021, at the age of 94. Smith’s profession was made known to be a longtime educator. He was also an officer in the United States Army; a university professor, consultant, and most notably President at several Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The cause of death has been made known, Smith suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in recent years and ultimately succumbed to it.

Dr. Herman was the Chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff from 1974 to 1981; and thereafter served as Interim President at Jackson State University in Jackson, MS, Central State University in Wilberforce, OH, and Morris Brown College, in Atlanta, GA. Smith was described as a man who was cheerful and full of energy, unfailingly positive and dedicated to service and family.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Murray Brothers Funeral Home Cascade Chapel (1199 Utoy Springs Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30331). Additional details about the life and other funeral services will be made known by the family of Dr. Herman.
